Safety First

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. 1 Timothy 4:16 KJV

A Christian’s life is the window through which others can see Jesus.

When we travel by air, before we take off the Flight Attendant does a safety briefing, which explains what to do in case there is a loss of cabin pressure.

Passengers are told that an oxygen mask will drop down from the compartment above. That they are to put the mask on first before attempting to help anyone else. This is to ensure we are physically alert and able to do it.

In Paul’s letter to Timothy, he was telling him of how important it was for him to maintain his own spiritual health before helping and serving others. How as a Pastor he had many responsibilities. To be mindful of the many false teachings and doctrines to contend with and correct.

That the most important thing was for him to take care of himself. His relationship with the Lord, first and foremost, before he tried to assist others. This would allow him to do all that was required to fulfill the work of the Lord.

What Paul told Timothy still holds true to this day. Each day we may encounter someone who does not know the Lord. But before we can attempt to teach them about the Lord, we must ensure our life is right with Him.

We need to have put on our spiritual oxygen mask first, by spending time with the Lord, in His Word, in prayer and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us.

Keeping our relationship right with God is the only way we will be spiritually alert to help others.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord may every believer’s life be beneficial unto all men. Through the Word, let us get a fresh anointing from You, so when we go out the world will see how blessed their life can be. May they seek to experience the power of the gospel in their own souls and bring forth its fruits in this life. We want nothing more than to save ourselves and others as You desire.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
