The Greatest Intercessor: His Hope and Love Covering Prayer

Today’s Reading: John 17:6-12

Today’s Verse: “I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.” John 17:9 KJV

Many of us have heard the hymn, “Somebody Prayed for me.”

The words of the song are simple but have powerful meaning.

“Somebody prayed for me, had me on their mind, took the time to pray for me. I’m so glad they prayed. I’m so glad they prayed. I’m so glad they prayed for me.”

But what stands out the most about the song is the ending. It ends with Jesus being the One who prayed for us! He always kept us in mind. Taking the time to always pray to God on our behalf.

Today’s passage shows Jesus praying for His disciples before He carries out the task of being sacrificed for us.

With everything He was about to go through, Jesus took the time to pray for them. He even took the time to pray for us, the believers.

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” John 17:20-21 KJV.

As believers we know that prayers on our behalf have great meaning. They have and continue to cover us through trials, tribulations, and sickness. They have and continue to help us through all the bad decisions we can make.

Many of us are truly grateful that someone prayed for us.

But the greatest, most memorable prayer will always be the one that Jesus made on our behalf.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that Jesus prayed to You on our behalf. He was praying for His followers, not the world. As His followers, we are separated from the world. We belong to You. We are thankful that He cares so much about us. That He worries about our strength and ability to stand on Your Word. We find peace in knowing that we belong to You. That Jesus holds us in His care. Thank You! Thank You for answering His prayer.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
