Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. 2 Peter 3:11 KJV
We all like nice things, but we know we can’t take them with us.
What would become of us if we set our affection on earthly things?
Forgetting about what the Lord has told us about eternity.
In this text, Peter’s question was about how we should live as those who had professed faith in Christ.
To those who believed that they would live forever in a new world.
Warning them of what would happen if we set our affection on this earth.
Letting our desires of worldly things take first place in our lives, instead of focusing on what God had promised for His children.
It was a question to remind all of us that all these things will be burned up at the second coming of the Lord.
That we should make sure of our happiness beyond this visible world.
As Christians, we are to strive to want to see the new heavens and a new earth.
Freed from the vanity and sins in which our present lives are subject.
Preparing to live with God in a perfect and sinless world.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, Peter asked a good question when he said, “what manner of persons ought we to be?” Our answer should be, “We should be the person whose life reflects purity, honesty, kindness, compassion and forgiveness.” All the things You desire and more. Father, we pray that You will help us to live out the right answer to the question. We desire see the new heaven and the new earth.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
