Read: Acts 1:1-11
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8 KJV
We know that a witness is someone who has knowledge of an event or happening from personal observation or experience.
It can range from being involved in a court case or the signing of legal documentation.
To be a witness means we are telling the truth about what we know.
God has called on witnesses since the world was formed.
But it was definitely a calling that was placed on man before the Savior ascended to the Father.
It was the final command He placed on the disciples.
They were to be bold and faithful individuals who spread the Word of the Savior’s coming, death and resurrection.
Telling how they had seen something that is important and amazing to our lives.
About the salvation He desired for all mankind.
The Holy Spirit would come upon them.
Always giving them the power needed to be His witnesses throughout the world (Acts 1:8 KJV).
In Acts 4, we see where Jesus called the apostles to go into a world where people did not know about Him.
They went, giving a truthful account of what they had seen, heard, and experienced (Acts 4:19-20 KJV).
He knew they could because they had witnessed His perfect life, teachings, suffering, death, and resurrection (Luke 24:48, Acts 1:5 KJV).
The words spoken were believable because they were true.
The Word has told us “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14 KJV).
It happens when we become the one who declares God’s truth in Jesus.
To be the one giving honor and praise unto His name.
To this day, this is what being a witness for the Lord means for our lives.
God has called us to be witnesses and tell the world about who He is.
About what He can and is doing in our lives.
Be the one to receive the power of the Holy Spirit.
To be the witness He has called you to be.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, just as You had given the disciples instructions about witnessing, we know we are to do the same. How under the influence of the Holy Spirit we will be more than able to accomplish this mission. We know there will always be someone who will not receive the Word. But it is still our desire to do Your will. That at some point they may hear the Word again and receive it. Thank You for giving us the power to declare the truth of Your Word.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
