Positive Expectations

Read: Matthew 13:53-58

Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Matthew 13:55 KJV

We should never doubt that someone, despite their age, nationality, or gender, may have knowledge in certain areas.

You would be surprised that they are more than capable of doing many different things.

That God has blessed them to serve in many ways.

This disbelief is what happened to Jesus.

When He was young, He went back to His hometown of Nazareth.

Jesus was teaching in the synagogue.

Some of the citizens came in a disrespectful and mocking manner.

They doubted what He could do.

Doubted, because they knew who He was and who His family was.

But they were still asking, “Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? (Matthew 13:55).

They were surprised to hear that someone of His social status was healing and teaching.

They questioned where He got His wisdom and miraculous powers (v.54).

Instead of questioning His social status and knowledge, they should have been truly listening to what He was saying and doing for the people.

Trusting in Jesus and His abilities.

Not taking offense to the authority He was displaying (vv.15, 58).

There are times when we find ourselves in the same position.

We struggle to trust in the Lord.

To trust in His ability to help us in the things we face in our daily lives.

Something that is not hard to do, especially when we feel all hope is gone.

Forgetting that He has the wisdom and power in every area of our lives.

When we fail to expect His help, we cause ourselves to miss out on the many mighty works He desires to perform in our lives (v.58).

Our unbelief becomes a great hinderance to obtaining the favor of Christ.

That is why we must keep our faith in Him.

Never doubting what He can and will do for each of us.

He took the time to learn about us.

Take on all our sins and problems.

The One who has made our peace with the Father.

We need to sit back, take the time, to remind ourselves and others that God is in control.

That we are also called to spread the Word, no matter our status in life.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Savior, we know there are times when we have trouble believing. When doubt tries to take control. At that point may we ask You, Lord,
to help our unbelief. Not letting what others say or think affect our decisions. Reminding ourselves and others that You are in control. That You are more than able to do just what You have said.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
