For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Romans 7:15 KJV
There are times we think about the things we have done or are doing in our lives.
The fact that we are trying to do good and be caring, but it doesn’t seem like it is working.
Even the things we want to stop doing, we keep doing them anyway.
It is not a secret that we, both pre-Christians and Christians, all need a helping hand in these areas.
We are all powerless on our own.
But to live up to God’s standards, and make it in this life, we all need Jesus.
Paul expressed these same feelings in Romans 7:15.
He found himself to be far short of perfection.
His words were sometimes those of frustration.
The same frustrations we sometimes feel.
We want to do good and deserve God’s love, but we find ourselves falling short.
Those are the times we need to remember Paul’s statements in Romans 7:25 – 8:2.
He is declaring that Christ is the author of our salvation.
A salvation that makes changes in our lives.
That Jesus has already done the work that has freed us from the very things that have us doubting and worrying about things.
When we recognize our real selves, our spiritual selves, sin will no longer have dominion over our lives.
The barriers between us and God has been removed.
That is what Paul, from his own experience, was teaching us.
Salvation and the changes the Holy Spirit will make during our growth, is what God desires for us all.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we are frequently led into times when our tempers, words or actions go against what You desire for us. We question why it is so hard for us to make the right decisions. Help us to remember that those are the times we need to examine our real selves. Our spiritual selves. Knowing that Jesus is the example we should follow. Not allowing our flesh to be in control of our lives. Getting a better understanding of who we are. Thank You for all the chances You give us to get it right.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
