That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:21 KJV
It is not always easy to see things the same way.
The environment we live in can play a part in how we see things.
We will always have times when we see things differently.
Our differences can cause problems.
It is a part of human nature.
That is why the Lord is expressing the need for us to have unity (John 17:20-26 KJV).
It is the only way we can achieve the goals He has set for us.
The more we dispute about lesser things, the more we throw doubts upon Christianity.
Unity is the state of being joined together.
When we have it there is harmony.
A oneness of mind.
There will be an absence of diversity.
In Christians it is manifested from the inside out.
The heart’s desire is to do things together as God desires.
There is no separation by denomination.
We are all striving to live according to the Word.
It can only be accomplished when we do not place more emphasis on our own desires.
Making sure our focus is not on anything other than our submission to Jesus as Savior and Lord.
That is why in John 17, the Lord prays that all believers would have unity with each other.
The same one that He had with the Father.
Being rooted in loving submission to God is how this is accomplished.
When we obey the Father and draw on His love, the Holy Spirit creates a sense of oneness.
We no longer focus on religious labels.
We no longer have disagreements over minor issues.
We will be fulfilling the Lord’s prayer, “That [we] all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee” (John 17:21 KJV).
It should be our desire to have unity with other believers.
This will happen when stay united through the Lord.
Holding steadfast to the Word and nothing else.
We should all want to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Praying that all believers may be more and more united.
Praying that we convince the world of the truth and excellence of faith.
Praying they find come to know first-hand about the sweet communion with God and His saints.
We are one in Christ.
In Him is where our strength lies.
Let us live and love as one in Christ.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, let each of us endeavor to keep unity with the Spirit. It is the only way we will have peace with all believers. When we show unity, we convince the world of Your truth and excellence. We find sweet communion with You, Fellowshipping with all those who believe in the Word. Thank You for reminding us of the need for unity. We are one in You.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
