Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. 2 Peter 3:11 KJV
The way we look at eternity will affect the way we live our lives.
The Bible has told us that “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10 KJV).
Because of the many influences in our lives, we often wrongly conclude that we “go around only once” in life.
Feeling that we should get all the pleasure we can at this present moment.
So many have taken this manner of thinking to heart.
But this is the wrong conclusion.
As Christians, when we think and talk like this we are acting like an unbeliever.
A person who knows only one world and one life.
The Lord saw this happening.
That is why Peter was asking the question in today’s message about how we should live (2 Peter 3:11 KJV).
It was being addressed to those who had professed faith in Christ.
The ones that said they believed that they would live forever in a new world.
The ones that needed a word that would help keep them on the right path.
That is why Peter was telling them about the need for holiness and staying strong in faith (2 Peter 3:11 KJV).
The same holds true in our lives.
The Lord is providing us with everything we need.
When we are convinced that in this life we are preparing to live with God in a perfect and sinless world our lives should reflect purity.
We should be living in honesty, truthfulness, kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
This is the effect of real knowledge being received from the Lord.
As disciples of God, we need to remember what manner of person we are to be.
Take the time to read and acknowledge what the Lord has for us.
To make the changes thar are needed.
Knowing where we want to be in the end.
Reaching for the highest mark.
Heaven is our goal.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, help us to live out the right answer to the question Peter was asking. With a pure heart and a desire for the Word, we will be able to live each day in a manner pleasing to You. Heaven is our goal. A reminder that should be the encouragement on our minds and in our hearts every day. Thank You Lord.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
