Quench not the Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 KJV
When we see or hear the word “fire” we automatically think of something burning.
The chemical combination and oxygen from the air is what gives out bright light, heat, and smoke.
We all know that fires are hot and can spread quickly, depending on the environment.
Fires are put out by taking away the source of the fuel and quenched by pouring water or pouring dirt upon it.
Although most fires can result in much damage, there is one fire we should never want to quench.
We must be careful not to quench the fire of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of every believer.
It is one we should desire to keep burning and spread quickly to all those we meet in life.
We must do as Paul says, “Quench not the Spirit” (1Thessalonians 5:19).
Fire is said to be the symbol of divinity, religious zeal, and a way of professing our faith in Jesus.
That we are to keep our enthusiasm for God.
The fire within us is quenched when we find ourselves doing things against God’s will.
When we let earthly things take control of our lives and cause us to sin.
With the way things are in the world today, it is easy for our flames to begin to die out.
If we find ourselves in a situation when we feel like the fire is going out, take the time to pray.
Our quickest source to get the fuel we need to get the fire started again.
Asking the Lord to rekindle the fire within.
To stir up the flames of Holy Zeal in our hearts.
There is so much joy and peace in our lives when we do.
Then in our work and in our witnessing, we can continue to be a soul that is on fire for the Lord.
Being a powerful influence on those around us.
Our heart’s desire should be to be on fire for the Lord.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Heavenly Father, when we pray without ceasing and read the Word daily the fire of the Holy Spirit burns with great strength. A fire that gives us a reason to give thanks for everything You do for us. There is nothing like the graces and mercies You bestow on us. We will never forget that You are the most powerful influence that fuels the fire in our hearts to remain steadfast in the Word. Thank You Father.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
