(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) Numbers 12:3 KJV
In the Greek language, the word ‘meek’ means “humble, gentle, mild”.
It relates to any person who has a calm temper of mind and is not easily provoked (James 3:13).
Some like to think that to be meek means you are weak.
That a person who is meek is deficient in spirit and courage.
But that is not true.
They have many qualities.
They are presented in different ways.
Moses is just one example of what it means to be meek (Numbers 12:3).
According to the Bible, he was humble and gentle towards others.
Both in his words and actions.
There were many times when he did not trust in himself and was afraid to do what God asked of him.
He thought he was not qualified for it.
Moses had the spirit of prophecy.
He had it in a way which set him far above all other prophets.
Soon he came to realize that God does not always call the qualified, He qualifies those He calls.
With that knowledge Moses then willingly submitted and obeyed God.
He spoke freely to the people.
He was a man used of God.
Although Moses is a good example, Jesus is the greatest example of someone who was meek (1 Peter 2:23).
We know He had all power in His hands but used it to help others and laid down His life to save us all.
He had every opportunity to attack those who attacked Him but didn’t.
Instead, He willingly submitted His life to the Father.
This can be seen when we read His Prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-56, Mark 14:32-50).
He remained humble and gentle towards others.
He fulfilled the Father’s plans.
Being meek is a good thing.
Why?
Because the Lord has told us, “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).
He was telling us that because we don’t let worldly thing influence how we conduct ourselves we will be rewarded in the Kingdom of Heaven.
All that we do in our lifetime has great meaning.
The Lord knows when and how we each can be used to accomplish any goal.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, we know that being humble is the result of our knowing You and knowing ourselves. There will be some who do not understand and speak against us. Despite what they say, we know that by Your grace we can remain steadfast in our assignments. Thank You for the many examples of what it means to be meek. Yours being the greatest of them all.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
