O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Romans 7:24 KJV
Identity refers to each of us knowing who we are as individuals and our sense of how others may think and label us.
Many of us could spend a lifetime trying to figure out who we are.
That is why we all need to look to the Word.
The Father is the Creator of all things and knows exactly who we are.
The Apostle Paul describes how he struggled with a mixed bag of desires, impulses, ideals, failures, and aspirations (Romans7:7-25).
These struggles, however, did not leave him in a state of confusion about who he was or which way his life was headed.
Instead, he had accepted the Lord’s offer to redeem and remake him.
Paul knew that with anything in life there is a process.
He knew he could not deliver himself.
He was speaking to God for his way to salvation, which comes through the Lord.
That when he did, he would receive the promise of deliverance from the enemy.
That one day he would no longer be living a life of sin, because the Lord would have delivered him from “this body of death” (Romans 7:24-25).
The same could hold true for each of us.
When we focus on the Lord, we become even more focused on who we are, and what we are doing.
Our identity in Christ will always be known as we live for Him day by day.
We will all be able to answer the question, “Who am I?”
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we all have moments when we search to know the true meaning of life. How there is only one true way to find it. It is found when we focus on being committed to serving You. Living according to the Word each day. Help us to remain focused on what You have planned for our lives. Then we and others will see our identity. The one that shows what it is like to be freed from sin and can live life more abundantly. Thank You Savior.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
