Our Memory Restored

Read: Daniel 4:28-37

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation. Daniel 4:34 KJV

There will be times in our lives when we can have a moment of memory loss.

A form of amnesia.

It can be caused due to different things occurring in our lives.

Things that put us in a position that we think we are completing things on our own.

That we deserve all the credit.

We forget that we have only made it this far because of the grace of God.

We are getting off track and the Father feels it is time to give us a wake-up call.

He begins to allow things to happen.

Things that only He can bring us through.

It is up to us how long it takes.

In this passage, King Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, found himself in a position where he lost sight of who he was and where he had come from.

He was trying to take credit for the kingdom he had been given. Totally forgetting about the fact that God is the Highest and everything He had was from Him (Daniel 4:17, 28-30).

He was letting pride and self-conceit rule in his life.

God was not pleased with Nebuchadnezzar’s actions and took away his ability to understand things.

He had complete memory loss.

His condition was said to be one of “spiritual amnesia”.

As part of his wake-up call, Nebuchadnezzar was driven from men and into the fields to live with “the beasts of field” and “eat grass as oxen”. He remained there for seven years (v. 32).

In that year, he lifted his eyes towards Heaven and mis memory returned.

He praised and glorified God for His “everlasting dominion”, “His works of truth”, and His ways of judgment (vv. 34,37).

We are to be careful not to cause God to take measures that show our prideful, sinful, and selfish ways.

No matter what we are going through, never forget who we are, where we have come from and “Who” has brought us this far.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that when we walk in the way of pride and selfishness, You get upset with us. So much so, that You feel the need to put us in an eye-opening situation. When we understand what we have done, repent of our sin, we become grateful for the love and grace You bestow on us. Always resulting in a positive ending. Thank You for being a Father who loves and cares for His children.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
