O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. Psalms 98:1 KJV
There are many verses in the Bible that instruct us to sing unto the Lord.
That we are to come into God’s presence with singing.
That with our singing we will make melody unto the Lord.
No matter how we sound or the notes we can or cannot hit, we are told that when we sing we are obeying God.
It isn’t an option.
It is a command.
The Scriptures tells us, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
The hymns and songs we sing are full of rich biblical words.
They speak to the heart.
Singing is a form of prayer and praise.
They are words that teach us and educate us about the Lord.
Giving us wisdom and an emotional connection.
Singing is one of the many ways we can communicate with the Lord.
A way to express our thankfulness and concerns.
We even find ourselves dancing to our songs of praise.
God loves to hear the voices of His children and see us do a dance of praise.
In Psalms 98, the writer starts off with an invitation for us to “sing unto the Lord a new song” (v.1).
He invites us to “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise” (v.4).
Not worrying about the quality of our voices.
He doesn’t see that as an issue.
He knew that God delights in hearing His children sing songs of thanksgiving and praise.
That we are singing because we know He has “done marvellous things” in our lives (v.1).
Through our Redeemer we have overcome many difficulties.
His saving works in our lives and His never-ending faithfulness towards us is the reason we should be singing songs of praise.
A song for every victory He has won.
No matter our singing style, we are in God’s choir.
We each have a place in His choir to sing a song about the marvelous things He has done.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, we each have our own style of singing. It may not be in a tone that sounds good to other, but we know it is music to Your ears. Despite how we sound, we intend to stay in the choir that sings songs of praise to You. Thanking You for all the great things You have done in our lives.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
