Credit Properly Given

Read: I Corinthians 1:28-31 / Jeremiah 9:23-26

That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 1:31 KJV

There are times when we hear about someone trying to “take credit where credit is due.”

It means someone is trying to take all the praise for something they have done.

Even though there was someone else who was assisting them.

Society influences a person’s need to try to convince others that they have more wisdom or knowledge than others in certain areas.

It causes a lot of confusion and can make friendly communications hard.

It is good to know that there are some who give honor to God for the things they have achieved.

They truly believe in giving credit where credit is due.

Giving God the praises because He is the one who deserves it.

For letting other know that with God all things are possible.

That He sent Jesus who is the Author and the Finisher of our faith in all that we achieve in life.

In this passage, the Christians in Corinth were taking credit for all their achievements.

They were not living a life that was acceptable to God.

They were failing to give God the honor, because He was truly the One who made things happen.

They needed to show the ability to remain humble and not seek to take the credit for what the Master had given them the ability to do.

They were allowing the standards, morals, and attitudes of the world influence how they handled the kudos they were receiving.

They were failing to acknowledge that they were chosen of God to be in their position.

Chosen because He saw something in them that would serve the purposes of His glory.

The calling by Divine grace is not limited to the rich or because of a personal quality that others admire.

He has not limited it to a certain age, or rank, but to anyone who is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ and giving Him credit for what He is doing in their lives.

God has a purpose for all our lives.

Taking no glory of ourselves but giving the glory to God.

In Jeremiah 9:23, the prophet was warning us about what the Lord says regarding our taking credit where credit is not due.

About how foolish it is for men to glory in their knowledge.

How when we try to find glory in anything we have done, it will leave us under the dominion of sin and the wrath of God.

That when we truly worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in the Lord and make it a point not to rely on the flesh, we will be living according to Word.

That we will always know what the Father has for us and that it will last forever.

We are given the same warning of God to this day.

A true warning that was given for our benefit to keep us from missing out on the many blessings He has for us.

As followers of Christ, we should be praising Him.

Letting others know that it was by His grace and mercy we were able to do the things we do.

That we are just one of many vessels.

Vessels that He has given the wisdom, knowledge, and abilities to spread the Word and aide in bringing others to Him.

We don’t want to lose our unity in the Lord to be torn apart because we are trying to take credit for what He is doing for His people.

We are all one in Christ and He is the One who deserves all the glory.

We are called to reject the things of the world.

We are to find “glory in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:31).

Remembering all He has done for us.

Taking every opportunity to show His love to others.

Giving credit where credit is due.

All the credit and praise belong to the Giver of good gifts.

God the Father.

And praises to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who graciously brought them to us, all the more when He died on the cross.

May we all find glory in telling everyone we know about the special favor, grace, love and salvation that the Father has granted us.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we are happy when others make nice comments about the things we are doing in our lives and for others. May we never forget to let them know that nothing we have done could have been done without You. That You are really the One who has made it all possible. Thank You for all the wonderful gifts of knowledge, wisdom and faithfulness that You so graciously give us.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
