Keep the Lights On

Read: Psalms 118:9-16, 97-105

NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105 KJV.

Psalms 119 is full of words of wisdom and encouragement.

They come from writers who express their appreciation for the faithfulness and the mercies shown to them by the Father.

Psalms 119:105 is composed by Nun.

Someone who understood that God’s Word provides us with the best lamp we could have for everyday living.

One that lights the path we should take in life.

Wikepedia, tells us that Nun grew up and may have lived under the Israelite Egyptian captivity.

In the Bible, it was a captivity where “they [the Egyptians] made their [the Israelites] lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour” (Exodus 1:14).

Despite all that he was going through, Nun continued to acknowledge that God was the lamp directing his path.

The lighting from the lamp was his way of acknowledging that the oil of the Spirit was there.

That God was directing him in the choice of his ways and the steps he would take.

That God was the light that guided his footsteps.

Not letting sin have control but as a believer, obtaining mercy and being under the covenant of grace.

A good example for anyone who is going through something.

And we all know that this happens to all of us.

We all can find ourselves in situations that make us feel like we are being held captive.

We struggle with trying to see how we will make it through it all.

Finding ourselves straying away from the best path.

Walking in darkness.

We forget that the Lord is with us.

That the “Word is a lamp unto [our] feet, and a light unto [our] path” (v.105).

Just like the psalmist, we should desire to become more holy in our ways and strive to offer up daily prayers to obtain His mercy and grace.

To be the one getting the help that we need to find purity in our lives.

Realizing it can be done by making our hearts a home for the Word and meditating on It all throughout the day (BETH -vv.9-11).

Trusting and believing.

When we do, we receive the motivation we need and the encouragement to avoid going in the wrong direction (MEM vv.101-102).

We will be like the psalmist and say, “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day” (MEM – v.95).

Speak Words of encouragement over your life.

No matter what the day may bring, let the Lord be the lamp for your feet, which lights the way on the path He determines you should take.

We won’t fall in the darkness of sin when we walk in the light of God’s Word.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, each day of our lives can have a moment when we feel like we are struggling and can’t see our way. Just like Nun, be the lamp that shines on our feet, lighting the path that we should take. It is hard to fall in the dark when we walk in the light of the Word. The Word is the lamp that fills our hearts, giving us the courage to face all things. Our obedience to the Word is the light that shines through for all the world to see and prayerfully will lead others to You. Thank You for the guidance You give us each, we couldn’t make it without You.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
