Read: 1 Kings 19:1-18
But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
1 Kings 19:4 KJV
There are times when we have our moments of depression.
Comparing ourselves to what others have done.
Times when we focus on our sinful weaknesses and failures.
Hoping that all things could come to an end.
Elijah wanted to die because of his circumstances.
His prayer was one of “O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers” (1 Kings 19:4 KJV).
He felt that he had to be like them or better.
Elijah had been used of God with great power.
He only needed to see, in a new way, the ugliness of whatever pride still remained in his life.
God had left Elijah to himself to show him that when he is bold and strong, it was in Him and the power of His might.
We all will have our reminders of certain things in our lives.
Reminding us that we are not to compare ourselves to others.
Knowing that God can use these times in a positive way.
He uses them to help us build an even greater appreciation for the glorious light of His grace.
God already knows what He has designed for our lives.
He knows what services, what trials, and what burdens we will bear.
Sufficient is His grace in our lives.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, the light of Your grace shines brightest against the darkness of our sins. You let us see them as a reminder of who we are in You. That no matter how tempted and discoursed we may become, we can find refuge in You. Resting in the Word. Remembering that You have told us that Your grace is sufficient for us. Thank You for that much needed assurance. It is a blessing.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
