Devoted – The Powerful, Contagious Joy of the First Christians

Today’s Reading: Acts 2:42-47

Today’s Verse: “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.” Acts 2:46 KJV

In today’s reading we have the history of the truly primitive church. The early church. We read about the first days and its state of infancy. The state of its greatest innocence.

We see that they kept close to holy ordinances. They showed a deep respect for God, their families, and their duties.

They knew the power of Christianity. That when they acknowledged it, it would lead their souls to communion with God.

They would commune with Him in all the ways He had appointed them to meet Him. All the ways He has promised to meet us.

The greatness of this event raised them above the world. The Holy Ghost filled them with such love. So much love that it made everyone to be to another as to himself. It made all things common.

It did not destroy property. It did away with selfishness and caused clarity. He made it where things were easy to see, hear, and understand.

God used simple words. He had a good plan, so the people knew His exact point without guessing.

God moved them to it. He knew they would be quickly driven from their possessions in Judea.

Daily the Lord is encouraging the hearts of more to embrace the gospel.

He wants us to be brought into a state of acceptance with God. He wants us to be partakers of His regenerating grace.

He wants us to be like the first Christian believers. To have a daily life of unity and fellowship.

We must have a strong commitment to each other. Regularly gathering together. Enjoying a meal together.

God has designed us for eternal salvation. He wants the earth to be filled with knowledge of His glory. He wants us to have joyful hearts.

This will happen once we all acknowledge Christ and the Word.

“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.” Acts 2:46 KJV

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, give us glad hearts. We want to be filled daily with Your joy. Help us to appreciate the simple things in life. The gifts You give us every day. Help us to remain bound in love and unity. Removing all pride or division from our midst. Let us have generous spirits. Ones that want to share what we have with others. Let our times together build up each other’s faith. Thank You for the gift of community. For letting the early church be our example. We want to stay focused on You. We want to bring praise to Your Holy Name.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
