Family Traits

Read: 1 John 2:28-3:3

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:2 KJV

There have been many times when someone has approached me and asked if I was related to someone they knew.

When I responded that I was not, they would say, “You look just like them.”

Because I know my family tree is large, I would tell them, “I may not know them, but we could be family.”

I love it even more, when I meet someone, have a nice conversation with them and before it is over, they comment on the fact that there is something different about me.

A sign that they see Christ in me.

Because I am carrying myself in a way that represents Him.

A family resemblance I am happy to claim.

When we receive Christ, we became a part of His family.

John confirmed this when he wrote to believers, telling them that God has called us His children (1 John3:1).

That it isn’t our outward features that identify us.

But what comes from us on the inside.

It is His Spirit that dwells in us, which is our true feature.

The One that everyone really sees.

The One that makes us all His children.

The special feature that is in all who believe and show it by living according to the Word.

Our bodies are a temporary refuge.

There will be a day when God will appear, our true spirits will be seen, and we will be just like Him (v.2).

Fully restored in the image God created us to be.

But for now, we must walk in faith and live by hope.

Testifying to others, hoping they receive Christ as their Savior and become a part of the family too.

Remembering that when He does appear for our family reunion, we will see Him as He is, and we will be like Him.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that at birth, we look like our biological parents. But when we receive You as our Spiritual Father, although our outward man does not change, our inner man does. We walk more in faith and live by hope. Desiring to live according to the Word. Knowing that when someone looks at us, they see You. That we can testify that we are all a part of Your family. Praying that they will come to know You as their Father too. Wanting all of us to be at the future family reunion You have planned. What a day of rejoicing it will be when we all get together as one with You. Thank You for making us one of Your own.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
