How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? Psalms 13:1 KJV
It is common for us to think that when troubles last long, that they are never going away.
Our worries and fears become a heavy load of burdens that make us feel anxious to the point it becomes an ongoing problem.
Often wondering, will it ever end, and our situation change.
Questioning if the Lord is really hearing our prayers and pleas.
What King David was going through brought him to the point where he began to ask the Lord questions.
Singing, “How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?” (vv. 1-2)
He asked the Lord four times, “How long?” in these two verses.
Showing us that we all will have pains in life that seem like they will never end.
Showing we can wholeheartedly go to the Lord, in prayer, with all our pains and sorrows.
That during these times the Lord will step in and take care of us.
He could step in because our Master himself was a man of sorrows.
We can keep the faith, knowing that the Lord will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
Giving us the power to go from a sad state to one of singing praises.
Declaring “I have trusted in thy mercy [and] my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation” (Psalms 13:5)
No matter our circumstance, by faith we all can be confident of salvation, knowing that the Lord has heard our cries and His unfailing love is carrying us.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we know that You are the Master who has dealt with sorrow. We know that there is nothing we can go through that You have not already experienced. We find ourselves constantly asking “how long’ it will take before it ends. Needing to be reminded that our time is not like Your time. That a change will come. We are grateful that we can come to You in prayer and express all our concerns. Our salvation comes from our belief in You. You are our greatest comfort. Because of our faith in Your mercy, our hearts will be filled with joy and peace.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
