Keeping Count

Read: Psalms 90

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Psalms 90:12 KJV

We all have an appointed time to be on this earth.

The writer of Psalms says that “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years” (v.10).

When we do the math, that’s 70-80 years old.

For some it will be shorter and others longer.

There is so much for us to learn, as well as the wisdom that can be passed on.

Living beyond this time is a blessing.

It is so exciting to hear about someone in has lived past the age of 100.

It means they have more work left to do for the Lord.

There is still someone out there that needs to hear their testimony.

Like the psalmist, we need to ask the Lord to teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

That we can be a blessing to someone before it is time for us to be called home.

The psalmist wanted us to know how even the longest life may seem like a quickly passing yesterday (Psalms 90:4) when we take our time for granted.

He wanted us to realize how short our lives on earth really are compared to eternity.

To think about what it will be like living an eternal life in Heaven.

A way of making sure of our salvation.

That we are living by faith every day for Christ.

None of us should let a day go by thinking we have time to prepare for eternity.

Tomorrow is not promised for any of us.

Today is the day of salvation.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, we all would like to live a long prosperous life. Teach us not to waste precious time on things that are not worthwhile and lead us to a need for forgiveness. Grant us true wisdom so we can make Heaven our home.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
