Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Philippians 2:3 KJV
Many people, Christians included, conduct their lives on what is called a “cafeteria plan.”
One that is “self-service only.”
This may be good when we are trying to learn certain things, but not when it comes to spreading the Word.
The Lord desires that we share what we have learned.
Setting aside any selfish ambitions.
God has a plan for each of our lives.
We all have similar gifts that the Lord uses in different ways.
He does not want us to take offense to the gifts He has bestowed on each of us.
Not to let selfish ambitions take control of our lives.
To defeat the enemy when he tries to keep us from seeing the good in each other.
Kindness is one such gift which Christ has shown us and desires each of us to show.
If we expect to or want to experience the benefits of God’s compassion in our lives, we must be compassionate one to another.
To “let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind” (v.3).
We all need to remember how John the Baptist reacted when the crowds left him and began to follow Jesus.
It probably was a surprise to many when he said, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
John the Baptist was setting aside selfish ambitions for the bettering of the Kingdom.
He knew everything was being done for the common good.
He was esteeming the work of the Lord to be better than anything he had done.
A lesson, which may be hard, but is something we all need to learn.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we thank You for coming to show us what it means to be humble. Let there not be among us a spirit of pride and unkindness. May we kindly care for others. Having and inward and outward peace that brings joy to each of our lives.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
