And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. John 20:28 KJV
There will be times when we might meet someone who is struggling with their faith.
They may have grown up in a home where they were loved and raised in a godly way, but somewhere along the lines they let circumstances get in the way.
They knew the Lord but were now struggling with unbelief.
We all have had a time in our lives when our faith has been in question.
Those are the times when we must remember that even Thomas, one of the twelve disciples, had a moment of disbelief.
After Jesus died, He appeared to Mary and then to the disciples, but Thomas was not there. But when he returned the other disciples told him about having seen the Lord. (John 20:11-25 KJV).
Thomas had doubts that Jesus had risen from the tomb and wanted to see Him for himself (John 20:25 KJV).
After eight days, the Lord appeared to Thomas, showing him, and letting him touch His scars. Telling him to stop doubting and believe (John 20:26-27 KJV).
Thomas did just that and was finally ready to stop doubting and to believe once again.
He “answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God” (John 20:28 KJV).
Thomas was ashamed of his unbelief.
He wanted his faith and belief to be restored.
Jesus knew what it would take to help his unbelief.
That is why He patiently waited on Thomas to come back and welcomed him when he did.
He does the same with us when we have our moments of doubting.
He will show us what we need to see.
Guiding us in the direction we need to go.
Helping us to grow in faith.
As a child of God, when we turn from doubting, He is always ready to welcome us home.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know we are sometimes slow and weak in our belief in You. The more that we read the Word and stand on the fact that You are real. When we do, the better our lives will be. Let us be true believers and acknowledge that we know You care about us. Always being able to say to You, “My Lord and my God.” That is what You are to us.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
