But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. Matthew 14:27 KJV
Many of us have wondered what it would be like to walk on water.
I was curious to know if anyone had ever tried it.
I decided to do a search and found a posting about “Walk on Water Shoes” on theawesomer.com website.
There was a jlaservideo (which can also be found on Youtube) of a young man who “designed and fabricated a special pair of shoes that let him stroll above the surface.”
It was quite interesting.
The young man even noted that “Maintaining balance is clearly the trickiest part.”
It took determination and courage for him to achieve his goal of “walking on water.”
It brings to mind the time when Jesus called Peter out of the boat onto the Sea of Galilee.
The disciples were on their ship “in midst of the sea” being “tossed with waves” (v.24).
It was frightening.
When they saw Jesus walking on the water, they showed more fear.
Jesus said to them, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (v.27).
The fact that Jesus was standing on a sea being tossed with waves was amazing, but to have Peter say to the Lord, if it was really Him to let him come out on to the water with Him took courage (v.28).
He was able to overcome his fears and step out on the water because he trusted that the Lord was truly there.
But as soon as the winds and the waves began to come, he became fearful and began to sink, crying out for the Lord to save him (v.30).
The Lord was still there, close enough to reach out His hand and rescue him.
That is what He does for all of us.
We sometimes step out on the water of life, filled with courage and determination.
It is not uncommon for us to meet with storms when we are trying to live according to the Word.
Storms that cause us to lose our faith and begin to sink.
We are not to let fear or “storm tossed” thoughts keep us from our walk with the Lord.
He showers us with grace.
He knows when we need encouragement.
He is there, with outstretched hands, saving us.
All we must do is stay anchored in the Lord.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, there will be storms that come into our lives. Storms that make it hard for us to see our way. But we know that if we stay anchored in the Word, we will be steadfast and unmovable, despite it all. We know that You will make a way, somehow. Thank You for being there for us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
