Cautionary Advice

Read: Proverbs 10: 14-20 / Proverbs 6:16-23

He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. Proverbs 10:17 KJV

Driving on the highway there are small grooves on the road.

They have been closely placed on the pavement leading to the shoulder of the road.

They are there to warn us when we are drifting off the road.

A way of getting our attention.

The same holds true with our Father.

He is always giving us warning signs when we are failing to live according to the Word.

When we are drifting off into a direction that is not good for us.

There are Scriptures that the Father uses to correct us when we find ourselves heading in the wrong direction.

They are called “reproofs of instruction” (Proverbs 6:23).

An expression of disapproval.

These expressions can also come from parents (Proverbs 29:17); friends (Proverbs 27:5-6); preachers (2 Timothy 4:2); the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16); and our moral senses (Romans 2:15).

All these loving and faithful expressions are the voice of God’s Spirit leading and guiding us (John 16:8).

Acknowledging that God is our Almighty Protector in the time of trouble is the best.

Because He is our guidance when we are struggling.

There to bring us through it all.

Realizing that the problem comes when we want to do things our way.

Letting the things of the world overtake us.

Things that keep us from seeing His instructions are for our good.

We should be thankful for His merciful hands

How He loves and cares for us despite of it all.

Admitting that we owe it to Him to follow His leading.

Letting our worship be our proof of gratitude.

Praying that we grow stronger in Him every day.

Remembering that He sends us warnings to protect us, not to punish us.

Asking ourselves, “What can I do to heed His warnings?”

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, make us sensitive to Your reproofs as we travel through this life. That we don’t make the mistake of not listening to what You are saying. Your commandment is a lamp, and the law is the light. That their reproof of instructions is the way of life. We know our strength comes from You. Thank You for sparing us from a spiritual accident. One that would ruin our lives forever.
